Job requirements
Role overview
We’re looking for a Senior Trade Operations Specialist to take end-to-end ownership of our live trading performance across short-term power markets in Europe. In this role, you’ll operate at the front line of Dexter’s revenue engine—supervising algo trades, managing risk, and ensuring operational continuity. You will initially be embedded in our non-asset-backed Trade Optimization team and gradually help build and scale our dedicated Trade Operations function.
In this role, we’re seeking someone who can work independently, contributing high-impact insights and designs across several key areas:
Monitor trade performance by overseeing trade algo’s and power markets (0h-3d ahead)
Operate risk management procedures, including risk capital allocation and market risk management (weather and events). Intervene, adjust and configure our algo setup and risk management framework.
Build out our operational short-term trading capabilities (build playbooks, feedback loop with product teams and customer success).
Ensure compliance where applicable
Responsibilities
P&L ownership for the assigned products’ trading results. Initially the non-asset backed product, expanding to asset-backed trading (renewables and batteries) when ready.
Manage risk of aggregate Dexter/customer exposure. You’ll be operationally responsible for risk capital management and will work with the product team to improve the methodology.
Ensure operational coverage. Reliable trade execution and operational continuity. Start from the current operational coverage and expand over time.
Market monitoring and execution: Keep an eye on power markets, weather and grid events 0h-3d ahead, escalate anomalies with the team.
Operational interventions. Act on alerts and edge cases. Coordinate between Customer Success and product teams. Escalate technical issues.
Feedback loop: Feed trading insights back to product teams and Customer Success.
Shift rota and on‑call cover: Participate in and help design a lightweight 24/7 coverage schedule (when needed in the future).
Process and playbook creation: Work with Customer Success and product teams to create playbooks, KPIs and incident post‑mortems for trade operations.
Regulatory compliance. Ensure adherence to REMIT and other applicable rules.
Why consider this role?
Smart Colleagues: You’re eager to be part of an algorithmic trading company where you’ll work alongside top ML experts, quant trading analysts, and software developers, staying at the forefront of market innovation.
Mission, AI & Forecasting: You’re drawn to a data-driven, mission-focused company that leverages tech to create a meaningful impact on the energy sector.
Ambition, Supportive Culture: You’re looking for a flexible, forward-thinking environment where ideas turn into impactful solutions, and your expertise can help drive the transition to renewable energy.
What we offer
Our salary is in the top 30% of the market
We offer a NS Business card or a Swapfiets
A personal Learning & Development budget, plus a dedicated Learning & Development Day every month
A healthy, flexible work environment with trust, ownership, and room for your ideas
Budget for home office setup
Office lunches, 5 min walk from Overamstel Metrostation
About you
To thrive in this role, you bring:
Short term power trading (support) desk experience, 4 years minimum, physical or prop trading experience, ideally at a mid‑sized utility, aggregator or asset owner.
Operational mindset: enjoys repeatability, shift work and quick decision‑making more than building quantitative trading models and price forecasts.
Not a quant: comfortable with dashboards, Excel/SQL and basic scripting (python) but not looking to write production code.
Risk and compliance aware: understands financial trading risk concepts (trading limits, VaR, etc.), audit trails and regulatory obligations.
Leadership potential: able to coach peers and grow into a first‑line manager role.
Clear communicator: translates market events into actionable insights for non‑traders.
Nice‑to‑haves:
Exposure to automated optimization of batteries/renewables
Start‑up/scale‑up experience
European power market knowledge beyond NL.
