Job description
Dexter Energy is an Amsterdam-based scale-up developing AI-powered forecasting and optimization solutions that help renewable energy companies navigate short-term power markets. We are passionate about accelerating the shift to a sustainable and affordable energy system, enabling the market to move away from fossil fuels toward a future powered by renewables.
About This Role
We’re looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer / Software Engineer to join our Renewables Optimization - Imbalance Management team. In this role you will collaborate with data scientists, software developers, and other ML engineers to build scalable, AI-driven products that optimize short-term energy trading.
Your focus will be on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and automation of ML models for our Imbalance Management solution, which predicts real-time imbalance prices to dynamically steer customer assets (solar and wind). By optimizing these assets, we help reduce imbalance costs and maximize revenues.
You will design, develop, deploy, and operate ML-powered software products, bringing crucial software engineering expertise to the team. Your contributions will accelerate R&D cycles, enhance operational stability, and ensure seamless model integration into our infrastructure - enabling Dexter to quickly adapt to market changes and new insights.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, deploy, and maintain machine learning pipelines for real-time and batch forecasting applications.
Ensure seamless automation of ML model retraining and deployment.
Improve the scalability, efficiency, reliability and monitoring of our AI-driven solutions.
Transform experimental ML code into production-ready software packages.
Implement best practices in software engineering, including CI/CD, DevOps, and performance monitoring.
Work with technologies such as Python (ML/Data stack), Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, BiqQuery, DBT and monitoring tools.
Collaborate with the entire team to achieve the best price predictions and optimization of steering of renewables assets across European countries.
Note: this role does not encompass building or designing ML models, feature engineering, model validation, model development, or research.
Why Join Dexter?
You might be ready for Dexter if:
You’re eager to work at a fast-growing, AI-driven scale-up that is pushing the boundaries of renewable energy forecasting and optimization.
You want to be part of a highly skilled team that values collaboration, innovation, and impact.
You’re looking for a flexible, forward-thinking workplace that supports both remote and in-person collaboration.
This is a great opportunity for an ML Software Engineer who wants to work closely with ML products and build mature software packages for our customers.
Job requirements
About You

Proficiency in designing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
Hands-on experience with machine learning model life cycle management (MLOps), preferably of time series models.
Strong knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and software testing methodologies.
Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or similar) and containerization technologies, as well as git and monitoring.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
Hyped to learn more about the energy trading domain.
Preferred: experience in the energy sector / renewables, especially if you have experience working on short-term energy trading.
Working with Us
Headquartered in Amsterdam, we’re a hybrid team that balances remote work with in-person collaboration. Most of us work from the office 2-3 days a week to brainstorm, exchange ideas, and drive projects forward together.
