Job description

Welcome to Dexter Energy! From our headquarters in Amsterdam, we are a progressive scale-up using cutting-edge AI technology to predict and optimize renewable energy generation. We're driven by our mission to make the power system greener and more affordable, altering the landscape of the energy market. We're passionate believers in the ability to make a marked difference in tackling climate change. Our proprietary software makes renewable energy sources more predictable and profitable, nudging fossil fuels off the grid, and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy.

Power up our team

As a DevOps Engineer, you will join our talented Engineering department, working in the Infrastructure team which enables Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists and Data Engineers in other teams to go faster, instead of working on Terraform code, storage, load balancing and related areas. The infrastructure team is moving these concerns away, allowing them to focus on the bigger picture: making renewable energy sources win the energy market!

It’s time to amp up your career

This year, the Infrastructure team is building a Platform and rearchitecting GCP - a lot of greenfield work is planned on this. This DevOps Engineer role is a great fit for senior-level engineers who would like to take the lead in designing and implementing a piece of the infrastructure puzzle.

Some examples of the puzzle include topics on how we manage our AI workloads on GKE on GCP, scale massive amounts of data across multiple cloud platforms, keep costs under control while allowing for extensive Machine Learning experiments, improve our security posture, and define and implement standards and best practises around SRE and DevOps.

This role is a good fit for you if you like taking full ownership of large infrastructure projects which entail stakeholder management, as well as designing, building and maintaining our infrastructure, and assisting and guiding our product teams on any DevOps-related topics. You’re doing this by advocating for SRE and DevOps best practices.

You will be teaming up with Adriaan, DevOps Tech Lead; Matthijs and Cole, DevOps Engineers; and Jan, our Engineering Manager.

To be successful in this role, you should be excited to join a company that is working towards a cleaner energy future. You should thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and be motivated to keep learning new things. You should care deeply about writing great software, following the latest best practices in terms of implementation details, documentation, and automated testing.

This role is watt you've been looking for!

What’s in it for you?

  • You’ll be part of setting up the fundamentals for future growth. Together with your team, you’re setting the baseline for years and years of development to come

  • A healthy environment, where we put trust in our fellow Dexterians. With this trust comes flexibility to do your job how you see fit and in our setting, there’s plenty of room for your ideas and wishes

  • Our salary and stock options are pretty good

  • We offer a personal Learning & Development budget and every last Friday of the month we have a Learning & Development Day

  • Every Monday and Thursday, our chef prepares a nice (warm) lunch at the office

  • You will be surrounded by extremely smart people

Job requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Strong experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Gitlab

  • A solid understanding of CI/CD, IaC, SRE and DevOps

  • Proficiency in Python or experience working in a Python-based environment are a big plus

  • To be opinionated and passionate about technology, scalability, reliability, security and availability

  • An urge to automate, document, communicate and collaborate

  • A passion for renewable energy and a desire to make a difference in the world
